OUR LOCAL FOOD HEROES
It’s week two of this year’s British Food Fortnight and we’re taking a moment to show our wonderful local suppliers some appreciation. Being based on our own farm in the heart of the Lincolnshire Fens, we are very lucky to have so many incredible suppliers, growers and producers right on our doorstep. Here’s to you Bloomsbury Bakery, Simpsons Butcher, Grasmere Farm, Moorcroft Fishmongers and Jonathan Hull Vegetables.
Bloomsbury Bakery
Bloomsbury Bakery supply all our wonderful bread – from lovely hot dog rolls to a soft sliced wholemeal, every loaf we receive is just beautifully turned out. Freshly baked that day, the bread always smells amazing when it arrives and tastes incredible too. Based in Grantham, Bloomsbury Bakery is just half an hour down the road from our main kitchen at Ewerby Thorpe Farm and epitomises everything that is great about a local bakery – Great British Bake Off…..eat your heart out!
Simpsons Butchers
These guys started off in Heckington, a village less than 3 miles from us. They’re an award winning butchers, that share our passion for buying from local farmers and producers to help support the local economy and keep food miles down. Simpsons have been supplying our meat since we started 17 years ago and the quality has always been great. Working with Simpsons means we can cook our meals with quality meat, that is locally sourced (where possible) all while sticking to our tight school dinner budget.
Grasmere Farm
A true stalwart of the Lincolnshire meat trade, having started trading over five decades ago. Another family run business, they rear and breed their pigs in open straw yards on their farm in South Lincolnshire and their Lincolnshire sausages and chipolatas are not to be missed. With many a fan, their pork is even enjoyed by diners at Michelin-starred Rutland restaurant, Hambleton Hall – we’d say that makes it good enough for our school meals!
Moorcroft Fishmongers
There really is no better place for seafood than the legendary Grimsby docks and Moorcroft are right there at the heart of it all. They are very proud suppliers of Grimsby fish and seafood, sourcing their fish from well managed, sustainable fisheries and they have always been our go to for the ever-popular kids’ favourite and staple, giant fish fingers.
Jonathan Hull Vegetables
From broccoli and beans to cauliflower and carrots, Jonathan Hull supplies our fresh vegetables. They are a local wholesaler, passionate about the produce they supply and as committed to buying locally grown as we are. Wherever possible, they will source fresh, in season vegetables grown by Lincolnshire farmers to help support local growers, boost our local economy and of course keep our food miles down. This also means we get vegetables when they are at their absolute best – tasting great and full of nutrients. What could be better?
